Maple Branch, Flix Mansfield among winners at 2024 Best of Craft Beer Awards

This past weekend, the 2024 Best of Craft Beer Awards competition was held in Redmond, Oregon, with two Tarrant County breweries landing among the winners.

Now in its tenth year, the Best of Craft Beer Awards has grown to be the third largest professional brewing competition in North America. At this year's event, more than 1850 submissions were received for evaluation against style guidelines covering 55 categories and subcategories.

From the entry pool, judges awarded 169 medals to 123 breweries located worldwide. On the North Texas medalists, Maple Branch Craft Brewery of Fort Worth previously won a Best of Craft Beer award in 2022, while Flix Brewhouse Mansfield appears on the honoree list for the first time.

Deep Ellum, Maple Branch honored at 2022 Best of Craft Beer Awards

Winners have been announced at the 2022 Best of Craft Beer Awards competition, with two North Texas breweries earning honors for their brews.

Held in Bend, Oregon, this year's event took place March 4-6. A total of 482 breweries from around the world submitted 2271 entries for evaluation, with medals doled out across 55 different categories. As in prior years, judging was provided by a panel of BJCP judges, industry pros and vetted brewers.

  • Dallas Blonde, Silver in the Golden or Blonde Ale category.
  • The Battle of Britain, Gold in the Barley Wines, Wheat Wine & Rye Wine category.

Bitter Sisters, HopFusion honored at 2020 Best of Craft Beer Awards

Bitter Sisters Brewing Co. and HopFusion Ale Works have been awarded medals at the 2020 Best of Craft Beer Awards competition.

Judging for the event was carried out by a select panel of BJCP judges, industry pros and vetted brewers. Entries were evaluated against the 2019 Brewers Association Style Guidelines, with prizes handed out in 95 different categories. This year, a total of 285 medals were awarded to 170 breweries from 33 states.

Both winning breweries from North Texas have won Best of Craft Beer Awards in the past. In fact, Family Trip from Bitter Sisters is a three-time honoree, having taken gold in 2018 and bronze in 2017.

Deep Ellum, HopFusion among winners at 2019 Best of Craft Beer Awards

Judging for the 2019 edition of the Best of Craft Beer Awards has been completed, with two area breweries landing medals at the competition.

A total of 262 medals were awarded by a panel of 96 judges at the event, with winning breweries hailing from 33 different states. Over 2000 entries were logged and separated into 90 categories, then evaluated against the 2018 Brewers Association Beer Style Guidelines.

Regarding North Texas medalists, Deep Ellum Brewing Co. of Dallas was a repeat winner for Deep Ellum Lager (the beer took bronze in 2018), while HopFusion Ale Works brought home a Best of Craft Beer award for the first time. North Texas scores six medals at 2018 Best of Craft Beer Awards

Now in its fifth year, the 2018 Best of Craft Beer Awards competition was held this past weekend in Bend, Oregon. Five North Texas breweries were honored at the event, which resulted in area brewers bringing home a total of six medals.

Beer styles were evaluated against the 2017 Brewers Association Guidelines, the only exceptions being the addition of special categories for Northeast-Style IPAs and Fruited Berliner Weisse beers. Overall, 145 breweries from 35 states won awards this year, with medals handed out in 86 different categories.

Deep Ellum, Nine Band medal at 2017 Best of Craft Beer Awards

Winners from the 2017 Best of Craft Beer Awards competition were announced this week, with two area brewers being among those bringing home medals.

Judging criteria was based on the 2016 Brewers Association Guidelines, which represented a change for an event that had previously relied on standards set by the BJCP. This time around, a total of 1751 beers were submitted for evaluation, with 88 judges awarding medals in 82 different categories.

As for breweries from North Texas, both Nine Band Brewing Co. of Allen and the Dallas-based Deep Ellum Brewing Co. scored wins at this particular competition for the second year in a row.

This year's results:

  • Silver for Rye Pils in the American-Style Lager or Light Lager category.
  • Bronze for Toad Choker Barley Wine in the American-Style Barley Wine Ale or Wheat Wine Ale category.
  • Bronze for Ghost Cow Oktoberfest in the German-Style Märzen or Oktoberfest/Wiesn category.

Local brewers among 2016 Best of Craft Beer winners

Six North Texas brewers are among the honorees recently announced for the 2016 Best of Craft Beer Awards.

Billed as "America's newest craft beer contest", the BJCP-sanctioned Best of Craft Beer Awards competition awarded its first medals in 2014, making this the third annual event for the Bend, Oregon-based organization. This year, 65 different styles of beer were evaluated, with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded in each category. Judging was carried out by professional judges and industry leaders, and it should be noted that some medals were not awarded in categories with limited entries.


Winners from North Texas include:

Bitters Sisters Brewery
  • Silver for Busy Body Blonde Lager in the Helles or Helles Bock category.
  • Bronze for Family Trip in the Belgian Tripel category.
  • Silver for Wealth & Taste in the Specialty Wood-Aged category.
  • Bronze for NightWatch in the Oatmeal Stout category.
  • Gold for Blue Lacy in the American Brown Ale category.
  • Gold for 10/6 in the English Pale or English IPA category.
  • Gold for Chocolate Stout in the Sweet Stout category.
  • Silver for IPA in the English Pale or English IPA category.
